DC Public Library’s Books from Birth program and the Capital City Go-Go invite you to dive into the world of comics with Marvel!

Did you know that reading for just 20 minutes per day can give you super powers? It builds your imagination, helps you in school, improves your mental health, grows your empathy and so much more! Comic books are one of the most fun ways to read. Filled with action and adventure they can be easy to devour in your free time. But did you know that comic books and graphic novels actually are great tools to support literacy starting at a young age?

  • Narrative Awareness | Children learning to read can benefit from the format as they learn how a story is put together through action, dialogue and even sound effects (POW!) panel by panel.
  • Vocabulary and Comprehension | Children learning to read can benefit from the format as they learn how a story is put together through action, dialogue and even sound effects (POW!) panel by panel.
  • Enthusiasm for Reading | The most important thing for young readers is to read! With a huge variety of comic books on a number of topics from super heroes to real life history, there is a lot to keep even reluctant readers coming back for more.
