Kessler’s book about the behind scenes of the secret service, is a partisan, gossip-rant about U.S. presidents. Former Presidents, Reagan, Bush and Ford were mellifluously described as outstanding American presidents, while agents derided Clinton, Johnson and Carter as inconsiderate or deceptively arrogant, womanizers.
There is something wholly upsetting about hearing the villain's side of the story. I learned recently that the Joker from the Batman comics was driven to madness by an event in his life that was so jolting -- so shattering that he genuinely forgot what the event was.
