William O. Lockridge/BellevueThe District's new libraries stand out in their neighborhoods, and they continue to win praise nationally. The Wall Street Journal has recognized the William O. Lockridge/Bellevue and Francis A. Gregory libraries as two of the best designed buildings for 2012.

"We are proud that the District continues to be honored for offering its residents world-class libraries," said Ginnie Cooper, chief librarian of the DC Public Library. "By putting great design in the heart of our city's neighborhoods, more District residents are discovering all the wonderful things their Library offers."

Our sessions -- for ages 10 through 15 -- will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on:

On Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., learn basic computer skills, gain an understanding of health literacy, learn to use government-sanctioned medical websites and how to find health information online.

This 2.5-hour workshop will be conducted by P. I. Advocates International Inc., a community education nonprofit. Seniors are welcome.

Batman: The Killing JokeI should start by saying that prior to reading this I was not a fan of DC Comics or Batman. I've always found Batman to be too simple to warrant the title of a superhero. I mean, let's be honest: He's really just a rich ninja with a lot of cool toys. But this book changed my mind on Batman and DC Comics.

The novel is set in Gotham and features three parallel story lines. The main plot involves the Joker shooting a family member of Gotham's famed Commissioner James Gordon, the Commissioner's subsequent kidnapping and the terror that ensues.
