ChessAre you interested in playing Chess?

We have chess sets available for use during normal operating hours. Come to the desk in Popular Services and pick one up!

For beginners, advanced, or just curious players, the "game of kings" offers endless hours of fun and can be highly educational. All ages are welcome.

Poem in Your Pocket LogoSign up to read a poem aloud at Poem in Your Pocket Night, and win a prize!  With a special schedule for children's, teen, and adult poetry, readers of all ages are welcome.  

Sign-ups will be taken from today through the event date on April 24.


Each person who reads aloud to the group will win a prize!  Just sign up for a time slot with your friendly library staff at Palisades Library.  The evening is scheduled as follows:

  • Children's Poetry - 3-4:30 p.m. - readers win a set of glow-in-the-dark stars!
  • Teen Poetry - 4:30-6 p.m.readers win a multicolored ink pen!
  • Adult Poetry - 6-7:30 p.m.readers win a chalkboard-surfaced mug!

From basic bracelet-making to Manga cartooning and duct tape projects, we have a range of fun activities for a perfect crafternoon.

Week 3: Intro to Google Tools
Week 4: Intro to Online Learning

For all workshops, students can sign up by either registering ahead of time with Byte Back (202-529-3395) or by showing up at the workshop the day it is scheduled. Registration is first come, first served.

Students who register ahead of time will have a saved spot in the workshop that expires at the start of the class. If a registered student is not in their seat at the start of the class, they may lose their spot to a walk-in student.

Crafts at the librarySunday afternoons are for crafts and coloring at Francis Gregory library. Come in and make something to take home - craft, sketch, color, draw or paint!

Children ages 12 and younger and their caregivers are welcome, and all craft supplies will be provided. 

This program is intended for children ages 4-12 and their families.
