Build models of plant and animal cells and learn how they are similar and different. Discover why cells are important for life. Use magnifying glasses to examine everyday things up close and microscopes to look inside the cells of plants and animals. Learn about bacteria and find out why some bacteria are helpful and others are harmful.
 
Advance registration required. Registration begins June 1. Come to the library to register or call 202-541-6351 for more information. Space is limited.

3- 4 p.m. Level II (Grades 4-6)
 
GSK Science in the Summer is a free science education program sponsored by GSK, in partnership with AAAS and the DC Public Library.

Fizz, Boom Read!  Full S.T.E.A.M. ahead with story time for our younger readers.
 
This summer read aloud program is designed for children birth to age five and their parent or caregiver.  The emphasis will be on stories with a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math, theme.   Craft, activity or experiment to follow stories.  It is never too early to foster a love of reading and the sciences in your child.
Story time helps children learn and practice early literacy skills in a fun, playful setting. Story time attendees are encouraged to engage with the librarian all while reading stories, singing songs, and learning new rhymes.

 Ages 2-5. Robot and girl reading book

Exercise in Bed is a total body wellness program designed to help reverse the effects of aging;
improve sore achy muscles and joints; improve circulation, sleep, energy and vision; and tone, firm and trim the body.

This class will be taught by licensed occupational therapist, Doris Johnson.

Energize DCThe DC Public Library and Pepco are working together this summer to present classes  at your local library about energy management. As part of this program, our library branches will be holding educational classes designed to help you take control of your energy use. You will learn how to use Pepco’s online energy management tools and create personalized energy management plans.
