KCDC logoMichael Taylor, an individual with an intellectual and developmental disability, was 12 years old when his mother placed him in Baltimore’s Rosewood Institution. After 30 years there, as well as in an institution in Massachusetts, Michael began living independently, advocating for others with disabilities, and working for Best Buddies. Listen to his story, then discuss disability rights and the history and living conditions of institutions.

This program is made possible through our partnership with Knowledge Commons DC.

In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, author Frida Larios will present workshop and reading that will facilitate children’s (ages 4-11) discovery and question the unique visual world of letters and Mayan mythology. The trilingual (English, Spanish and New Language [Visual] Maya) children’s book, The Village That Was Buried by an Erupting Volcano (children’s book) and the Green Child wooden puzzle are the tools of this workshop and educational experience. In the Children's Room on the 2nd floor of the Mount Pleasant Library.
