10:30 a.m.

Poets, writers and other spoken word artists are invited to join us for the DC Poetry Project Traveling Writer’s Workshop and Open Mic Poetry Reading.

The Writers Workshop The semi-structured writers workshop will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and be facilitated by DCPP organizers, members and other special guests. The workshop focuses on developing personal meaning in the writing process. The workshop strongly emphasizes process over final product. We believe that there are no right or wrong ways to express yourself, so please join us and help celebrate the power of poetry.  The DC Poetry Project strives to foster a non-judgmental, inclusive and accepting community.

The Poetry Reading The open mic for all begins at 12 p.m. The doors and sign-up lists open promptly at 11:45 a.m. So please come to share or just to listen and have fun! Poems may be on any subject, and you may read more than one, but we ask that you keep your time on the mic to three minutes. The open mic will go for as long as we have participants or until 1:30 p.m. The program will regularly feature local, regional and national poets.

This program is made possible thanks to our partnership with the DC Poetry Project.

Find out just how many Ward 6 Library Lovers Like to Bike as we celebrate National Bike Month!

Families withnatbikemo children ages 9 and younger will meet at Rosedale or Southeast library (choose the branch closest to you) as early as 9:45 a.m. for a briefing on bike safety conducted by friendly neighborhood library staff and biking police officers. Afterward, everyone will don their helmets and ride to Northeast Neighborhood Library, where we will converge with other Ward 6 families for an outdoor/indoor (depending on weather) celebration!

At Northeast library, families can decorate their bikes, children can participate in an active story time session facilitated by librarians from all three branches, and adults can view a free tire repair demo by partners from Capitol Hill Bikes.

Adult chaperones and helmets are required for all child bikers. All adults will be required to sign liability waivers for themselves and their children upon arrival at your respective neighborhood library (Rosedale, Southeast, Southwest or Northwest One). Rain or shine, we will bike to Northeast Neighborhood Library, so please dress appropriately.

Questions? Please email Tammeric (tammeric.scurry@dc.gov) at Rosedale Neighborhood Library for more information.
