Child reading a wordless picture bookJoin us for an interactive Story Time that includes songs, rhymes and wordless picture books. Librarians will demonstrate ways to have fun conversations around picture books without words that develop early literacy skills such as vocabulary, sequencing, storytelling and creativity.

All of skills these will help little ones get ready to learn to read and ready for school.

This will take place during regularly scheduled Pajama Story Time.

Join us for books, songs, rhymes, and finger plays as we continue to strengthen early literacy skills while enjoying stories together.  An easy craft activity follows story time each week. Designed for children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers.

4:30 p.m.

Design, create, and build structures with LEGO bricks.  

This program is designed for ages 5-12; children younger than 9 must attend with an adult.  

7:15 p.m.

Beautiful Things coverAs part of the month-long celebration of DC Reads, we will be reading and discussing Dinaw Mengestu's book The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears.

From the jacket:
"Seventeen years ago, Sepha Stephanos fled the Ethiopian Revolution for a new start in the United States. Now he finds himself running a failing grocery store in a poor African-American section of Washington, D.C., his only companions two fellow African immigrants who share his bitter nostalgia and longing for his home continent. Years ago and worlds away Sepha could never have imagined a life of such isolation. As his environment begins to change, hope comes in the form of a friendship with new neighbors Judith and Naomi, a white woman and her biracial daughter. But when a series of racial incidents disturbs the community, Sepha may lose everything all over again."
