"Book Cube 1" by Larry Wentzel;FlickrDo you like to be left scratching your head after finishing a book? Do you enjoy asking yourself, “What, exactly, did I just read?”

What Did I Just Read?! Book Club may be just what you’re looking for! Once a month, we’ll meet to discuss an innovative work of literature that avoids taking the straight path from A to B. These books sometimes start at B, or they skip B, or they never really leave A. Perhaps they just circle around point C. Whether thrilling, heartbreaking, terrifying, or goofy, What The?! seeks to explore and discuss the kinds of books that even other books think are weird.

What The?! meets on the second Wednesday of the month at a bar or restaurant near Takoma Park Library beginning September 10. Email torin.jensen@dc.gov for questions or to RSVP for the next meeting.

From the jacket:
"Seventeen years ago, Sepha Stephanos fled the Ethiopian Revolution for a new start in the United States. Now he finds himself running a failing grocery store in a poor African-American section of Washington, D.C., his only companions two fellow African immigrants who share his bitter nostalgia and longing for his home continent. Years ago and worlds away Sepha could never have imagined a life of such isolation. As his environment begins to change, hope comes in the form of a friendship with new neighbors Judith and Naomi, a white woman and her biracial daughter. But when a series of racial incidents disturbs the community, Sepha may lose everything all over again."
