(All day)

Horror Film SeriesPlease join us while we kick off our 2014 horror movie series at the Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Library! Our January feature will be based on the book Carrie by Stephen King.

Future movies, shown on the third Thursday of each month, will be standards from across the genre, including one documentary on conspiracy theories surrounding Stanley Kubrick and the making of The Shining.

Movies will be screened in the second-floor conference room. Please call us at 202-727-1288 for information on each month's feature.

7:00 p.m.

Feb. 12: Beatles' First U.S. Show, Washington Coliseum, 50th Anniversary
Before they were on Ed Sullivan or anyplace else in the United States, the Beatles' first gig was at the Washington Coliseum (3rd & M streets NE) on Feb. 11, 1964. We'll screen the show in its entirety (spoiler alert: The Beatles kill it!) and have a conversation with those who were there firsthand... or wish they were!

Aug. 21:  Ft. Reno, A History
The legendary, free, summer concert series has a forty year history. We intend to some show concert footage, still photography and have first hand accounts from those onstage, backstage and in the audience. With organizer Amanda MacKaye and others.

Oct. 9: Hard Art, 1979 -- Behind the Book
This great book of Pulitzer Prize winner Lucian Perkins' photography (writing, Alec MacKaye, contribution by Henry Rollins) captures part of the birth of DC punk in a beautiful way. With the help of those who were there (details to follow) we'll attempt to make those images come to life through music, conversation and film clips.

Dec. 11: An Evening With Jeff Krulik, Music Documentary Filmmaker
A special evening with filmmaker Jeff Krulik. He's much more than the brilliant Heavy Metal Parking Lot-- although that'd be enough.
