Image of "To kill a mockingbird" DVD coverIn honor of the 2014 Banned Books Week celebration, The Adaptive Services Department will present an audio described screening of To Kill a Mockingbird.

This movie, which won three Oscars, is based on Harper Lee's novel. It provides insight into the racial tensions in an Alabama town circa 1930; with emphasis on Atticus Finch, a Lawyer in a racially divided town who agrees to defend a young black man accused of raping a white woman.
                    
The movie screening is open to the general public and will feature audio description. Limited seating in Adaptive Services is available.  

This item is available on DVD in the DC Public Library collection and as Descriptive Video (DVS 00527) from the DC Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped collection.

This class is for beginning braille users (All ages).

LOL Movie at MLK Teen SpaceJoin us at the MLK Teen Space for a great movie in our Teen Lounge on the first and third Thursday of every month. 

We show many popular movies as soon as they are released on DVD and are in the library collection. We also show an occasional anime show or movie to tie into the Manga Club program at Teen Space.

Central Library 1961Two great things are happening at DC Public Library: We are celebrating the new DC Punk Archive in Special Collections and the MLK Jr. Memorial Library is undergoing a major renovation project.

Join us in A-5 while it's still a proper dive for the DC Punk Archive Basement Show with local bands Joy ButtonsFlamers, and Hemlines. Doors are open at 6 p.m., music will be over by 8:30 pm. 

This show is all ages and free, because it's the library and it always is!

Join our Braille Book Club for Kids which is for children in grades 1-6 (and their parents) who are Braille readers. This program is sponsored in partnership with Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.

The Braille Book Club for Kids meets the first Saturday of every month, at 11 a.m. (except holidays or as advertised) in the Adaptive Services Division, Room 215.
