In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, author Frida Larios will present workshop and reading that will facilitate children’s (ages 4-11) discovery and question the unique visual world of letters and Mayan mythology. The trilingual (English, Spanish and New Language [Visual] Maya) children’s book, The Village That Was Buried by an Erupting Volcano (children’s book) and the Green Child wooden puzzle are the tools of this workshop and educational experience. In the Children's Room on the 2nd floor of the Mount Pleasant Library.

Join the Mt. Pleasant Library Teen Book Club!


In September we will celebrate Banned Books Week by reading books that have been challenged or banned in school and public libraries. Grab a related book and come chat Wednesday, Sept 24 at 4:30 p.m. in the Teen Space on the Lower Level. Library staff will have some favorites out on display and you can always ask for suggestions at the Information Desk.

A History of Rock Creek Park book coverHappy Birthday Rock Creek Park!

On Sept. 25, 1890, Rock Creek Park was established as one of the largest and first urban nature parks in the country. Join author and historian Scott Einberger for a special evening program spotlighting how this largest of Washington, D.C. parks was established.

Einberger is the author of the recently released A History of Rock Creek Park: Wilderness and Washington, D.C. Book sales and signing will follow the presentation.
