Jazz in the Basement: The Young Lions tribute to Omrao Brown and the Bohemian Caverns

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library - Central Library

3 p.m.
The Bohemian Caverns operated as a nightclub from its opening in 1926, and after presenting many of the leading jazz musicians of the 1950's and 60's, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk, the 11th and U St. NW venue became a historic DC landmark. It closed in 1968 shortly after the riots, and reopened in the late 1990's as part of the revitalization of U Street. From 2006 until early this year, the club was operated by Omrao Brown and regained its status as one of the top jazz clubs in the world, presenting both national and D.C.-based acts.
