BARS program

BARS

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library - Central Library

4 p.m.
BARS is a creative workshop for youth who enjoy rapping and writing spoken word poems.  Join "Words, Beats and Life" in Teen Space every Tuesday from January until June to write new songs to original beats & poems and to record and perform. Spend your time making art that makes a difference in your community!  The BARS workshop will end in June with a culminating performance by workshop participants. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Come to the Afterschool Lounge on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and use the library's large conference room as a group study room, game space, lounge and snack area. Board and card games are available. Food and drinks are welcome.  Crafts, trivia tournaments, video games, and other activities will be available on a rotating basis. Ages 11-19.

If you enjoy playing games, then visit the Parklands-Turner Neighborhood Library on Thursday nights at 5:00 p.m. for Game Night! Kids and teens will enjoy a variety of competitive games; from video games, to card games, to board games! Every Thursday will feature a different type of game. Recommended for ages 7-16.
Sewing for Adults and Teens

Sewing for Teens and Adults

Lamond-Riggs Library

7 p.m.
These classes will cover basic sewing skills, and in each class we will make a small, hand-crafted sewing project.  We will build our skills week by week.  In this class, adults and teens will be introduced to threading a needle, sewing a button, basic stitching. Adults and teens get to personalize each project through color selection, technique, and embellishments. They will complete projects such as sewing a pillow, headband or scarf.  Also, students can come to class to get basic sewing questions answered.

Yoga at Your Library is a beginner level yoga class for adults and teens brought to you courtesy of Yoga Activist. No experience is required, and the class is free. You can bring your own mat, but if you don’t have one yoga mats are available for use during the class.

Can't get enough of Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, or Magic: The Gathering? Prepare to exhibit your trading card prowess at this day-long event. Enjoy swapability at the expense of your opponents and win weekly bragging rights.  Players will meet until 5 p.m. in Gallery A-6, located on the Lower Level. Games are open to adults and teens and tournaments will be held twice a year. So, come one, come all; just come ready.

Players will meet on Saturdays from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in Room A-9, located on the Library's lower level. Games are open to Pokémon lovers of all ages and League Leaders will be on hand to moderate.
