Children will sing, dance, clap and laugh while learning basic language and literacy skills that engage them in an interactive musical experience.

An interactive musical experience, incorporating the use of musical instruments.  

For ages 0-5.

This is a ticketed, first-come, first-served program.

This movement-based story time includes reading stories, singing familiar songs as well as learning new rhymes and songs with the librarian.

For ages 3-5.

A half hour of stories, songs, and rhymes promoting early literacy for ages birth to 24 months and their caregivers, with sensory play time following the story time.

10:45 a.m.

Enjoy stories and songs with the children's librarian every week!

For ages 3 - 5 with their caregivers.

Stories, songs, and rhymes for ages 0-2, with their caregivers.

For safety's sake, there is a limit of 75 participants for each story time.

Remember -- there is a story time at 10 a.m. and another repeated at 11 a.m.

little boy readingThis story time helps children learn and practice early literacy skills in a fun, playful setting. Story time attendees are encouraged to engage with the librarian all while reading stories, singing songs, and learning new rhymes.

 Ages 3-5.

Cover for El Deafo, the book featured in this eventAward-winning author and illustrator Cece Bell will talk about her latest book, El Deafo, a graphic novel that describes her experiences growing up deaf in the 1970s. As a child, Cece felt like she was a superhero with the special powers from her hearing aid. So she called herself, "El Deafo."

Cece Bell has authored and illustrated several books, and earned a Geisel Honor for one of her books, Rabbit and Robot.

Come in and meet the author and learn about her fantastic graphic novel, El Deafo.

This event is recommended for children ages 7-12 and their caregivers.

Captain Underpants Banned BooksCelebrate 2013's most challenged book with games, activities and lots of Captain Underpants fun!

This event is recommended for children ages 6-12 and will be held in the Children's Room on the second floor of the library.

Enjoy a night of songs and laughter with Rosedale's Family Film Night!

Children and their families will get to enjoy the classic musical, Mary Poppins, about two children whose nanny turns out to be very special, as well as learn a little about P.L. Travers, the author of the popular Mary Poppins series and other childhood classics!

Fall leaves Maybe you've seen the leaves start to fall or pumpkins appear in the window. That's right, it's that season - fall!  We'll read some autumnal books together and then stick around for our special craft! Learn how to make a clay paperweight with an embedded leaf pattern so that you can take a bit of this special season home with you! Ages 6 and up.

Come and participate in the chess club activities at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library. Every Tuesday, engage your chess moves with other players.

Come by and listen to the first chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Captain Underpants, and other banned favorites. This program is appropriate for children ages 8-12 and will take place in the children's story circle.

Visit the Children's Room during Banned Books Week (September 21-27) and celebrate the freedom to read with a commemorative craft, a guessing game, and more.

lcardSeptember is Library Card Sign Up Month! Sign Up for a Library card or refer someone to get a library card and be entered  in a  drawing for prizes at the end of the month! Its just that easy!

Come in and take photos of yourself with a Banned Book of your choice! The photo booth will be available all week and staff will be on hand with our iPad to take photos. You can also take selfies with your phone - just make sure you tag our Twitter handle: @dcpl or Facebook at DC Public Library. For all ages.

Introduce your child to a love of reading and the library at our weekly Wednesday story times. Each week enjoy adapted stories, songs and movement activities that engage children.
