Time to Write Your Novel

November is National Novel Writing Month and we’ll be hosting three “write-ins” at our branch.  Come on in to write, get together with fellow writers, and use all the library resources you need to write your masterpiece!   (There will also be refreshments.)Our write-ins will take place on November 16, 23 and 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Alfred Hitchcock Filmfest

For the next two months, we will be screening some of Alfred Hitchcock's best work Mondays at 6:30 p.m.

9/11 in Films

On Saturday, September 10, we will be screening two film in memory of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Movie Screening: Neil Simon's "Biloxi Blues"

Biloxi Blues is a movie based on Neil Simon's play of the same name, a semi-autobiographical story of Army boot camp recruits during World War II.  The play is part two of Neil Simon's Eugene Trilogy, which also includes Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound. The role of Eugene was played by Matthew Broderick on Broadway, and Broderick also stars in the movie version, which was directed by Mike Nichols.

Cairo in the News

Egypt looms large in the news this month, with former President Hosni Mubarak on trial and important Egyptian presidential elections coming this October or November, so the Chevy Chase Branch Library is featuring a display to help you get to know Egypt's capital city better.  Come by during the month of August to learn a little more about the sprawling metropolis of Cairo.  View a video preview of the display.
