Hello! It’s the Big H, the goofiest PAL dog. I bounded into the library eager to give my favorite librarian, Miss Julie, a bit of love before moving on to kiss the kids. Of course I had to inspect the craft table and then have a peek at the snack counter. I know my way around the library quite well by now.  It’s like my second home!

Hi. I’m Buster. I’m a five-year-old terrier mix rescue dog. I am mostly black with some white. On my chest, I proudly sport a heart-shaped patch. I love everyone: people and dogs. I am very loving and very gentle. Tonight was my first time at the library as a PAL Reading Specialist and I did a fine job. Miss Julie was very impressed. She kept telling me I was a good boy.

Penguins.  Seals.  Not the first things to pop into your mind when you think of Africa.

But Cape Town, South Africa, has both. And what an important place in Black History Cape Town has!  After all, Archbishop Desmond Tutu was Archbishop of Cape Town and Nelson Mandela spent years in prison on Robben Island near Cape Town before he became the first black president of South Africa.

Come learn a bit more about Cape Town throughout February at the Chevy Chase Branch Library.  This little video preview of our display will give you some idea of why Cape Town is the most popular tourist destination in all of Africa.
