128-mile walk from Brooklyn Bridge to Montauk benefits Smithtown nonprofit

Two recent St. John’s University graduates plan to walk from the Brooklyn Bridge to Montauk Point to raise money for a Smithtown nonprofit.
Nathan Holmes, of University Park, Md., and John Kenny, of Union Beach, N.J., plan to start the 128-mile journey today. They expect to complete the eight-day trip on June 4 in Montauk.
Money raised will be donated to the Developmental Disabilities Institute, which operates more than 40 schools and other programs for more than 5,000 children and adults with autism and other disabilities.

DDI intends to use the funds to upgrade its Little Plains School and Children’s Residential Project, which needs new handicap accessibility; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning improvements; roof replacement; new lighting and other repairs to improve energy efficiency.
Kenny and Holmes graduated this month, Holmes with an economics degree and Kenny with a finance degree.
Holmes and Kenny, and a support team including friends and classmates, plan to make stops at DDI sites and stay with DDI host families during the walk. To make a donation, go to ddiny.org/liwalkdonation.
