Long Beach giving away pieces of boardwalk

Long Beach is giving away the final pieces of its beloved boardwalk, which was destroyed by superstorm Sandy, outside City Hall.
Buckets of the remaining pieces of the boardwalk are located outside the entrance to City Hall. The 2.2-mile oceanfront boardwalk was demolished and carted away in mid-February, months after Sandy ruined it.
The city is expected to award a bid to build a new boardwalk this week. The project is expected to cost $40 million, city officials have said.

Sections of the rebuilt boardwalk could be ready by the end of the summer, officials have said.
Pieces of the old boardwalk became popular souvenirs in the weeks and months after Sandy.
The final pieces are going fast, city officials said Monday.
Long Beach City Hall is located at 1 West Chester St. in downtown Long Beach.
