Lottery to begin for deer hunting permits

The East Hampton Town clerk will begin accepting applications for the town’s deer hunting lottery Saturday.

All lottery applications must be filed by 4 p.m. Dec. 21 to be eligible for the drawing.

Winners will receive permission to hunt on selected town-owned properties, including part of the 500-acre Grace Estate in the Northwest Harbor section of the town.

The ninth annual Hot Chocolate 5K Run/Walk, organized by the Seaford Wellness Council, will be held Saturday and will be dedicated to superstorm Sandy victims.

The Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m. just south of Seaford High School at 1575 Seamans Neck Rd.

Long Beach’s school district has amended its vacation schedule to make up for school days lost to superstorm Sandy.

Brookhaven Town is continuing to collect superstorm Sandy-related debris from Suffolk County and several other Long Island towns but will not immediately charge fees.

The town started collecting trees and branches Nov. 6, with much of the debris coming from Suffolk County and the towns of Smithtown, Southampton and Riverhead, among other municipalities, Brookhaven officials said.

The water supply in Davis Park is now safe to drink, becoming the last area on Fire Island to have service restored, the Suffolk County Water Authority announced Thursday.
