Sitting in her wheelchair inside the New York Mets clubhouse, Peri Finkelstein said she was in awe as her favorite player, David Wright, reached out and touched her hand.

A memorial service honoring Shelter Island Supervisor James Dougherty’s late wife, Nancy, will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Manor House on the Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island.

Nancy Dougherty died at her home Feb. 6 after a 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. June 30 would have been her 74th birthday.

East End's real estate tax revenue jumps

Revenue from a 2 percent tax on East End real estate transactions jumped up nearly 52 percent for the first five months of the year compared to a year ago.
