The hamlet of Riverhead, located within the town of Riverhead, is at the mouth of the Peconic Bay, where the North and South forks split. The hamlet has a population of about 10,000 and includes a developed business district along County Road 58, which includes the Tanger Outlet Center, the Riverhead Raceway and the Peconic Bay Medical Center. South of the business district, along Route 25, Riverhead’s downtown area runs along the Peconic River. Main Street attractions include restaurants, retail stores and the Atlantis Marine World, Long Island’s only full-scale aquarium.
