Town Focus: Smithtown
Photo credit: Colleen Harrington | Legend has it that on the longest day of the year in 1665, Englishman Richard Smith hopped on his trusty bull, Whisper, and traced out the boundaries of current-day Smithtown. Historians agree that this tale is mostly bull. Records indicate Smith was given the land. The statue, unveiled in 1941, still stands today. (Aug. 5, 2010)
