Attraction honors famous Saratoga thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - (AP) -- Visitors to Saratoga Springs for this summer's 150th anniversary of thoroughbred racing in the city can check out a new attraction modeled after Hollywood's "Walk of Fame."

The New York Racing Association has opened the new "Hoofprints Walk of Fame" at Saratoga Race Course, honoring an initial group of 30 famous horses that have run at the track.

It's just outside the clubhouse gates and features granite plaques with information on each horse's owner, trainer, jockey and signature wins at Saratoga.

Among the horses honored are Triple Crown winners Affirmed, Secretariat, War Admiral and Whirlaway, along with several winners of the Travers Stakes, Saratoga's signature race held each August.

Saratoga is the oldest continuously-operating sports venue in the United States. The first races were held in August 1863.
