NJ Board of Education member Ilan Plawker dies
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. - (AP) -- A northern New Jersey politician who became vice president of the state Board of Education has died.
Ilan Plawker was 78.
His family says he died Thursday of lymphoma.
The Englewood Cliffs businessman served on his community's board of education and the borough council. He was named to the state Board of Education by Gov. Jon Corzine and was still on the board at the time of his death.
Education Commissioner Christopher Chris Cerf says Plawker was at the "top of the list" of New Jersey residents "committed to making sure that every child receives a high-quality education."
Plawker is survived by his wife, three sons, a sister and seven grandchildren.
