DC Public Library is excited to welcome you to the reimagined dclibrary.org. This site was built with you in mind and we hope you'll enjoy exploring it - and utilizing the many wonderful resources - as much as we enjoyed building it.
New Website FAQ
How can I sign up for a library card?
Anyone who resides, works, pays property taxes or attends school in the District of Columbia can get a card. You can sign up for a library card by clicking on the “Get a Card” button located at the top of every page.
Search for a Book
Find your next read using our Find & Borrow page, easily located at the top of the homepage. Once you’ve made your way to Find & Borrow, simply put the title, author, or keyword in the catalog search bar and select “search”.
Find an Event
Explore all of our upcoming events on the Attend an Event page, easily located at the top of the homepage. Once there, find the full events calendar through the “Explore All Events” button, or scroll down to filter by audience or location.
Book a Room
Visit our Reserve a Room page, easily located at the top of the homepage to book your next meeting or study room. Find our meeting and study room guide and policies right at the top of the page, and scroll down to choose a location where you’d like to reserve a room.
Looking to host a private event at the Library? Visit our Event Rentals page instead for details and reach out to the events team at eventrentals@dc.gov
Use an Online Resource
Find all of our online resources - like Mango Languages, The New York Times and more - on our Research & Learn page, easily located at the top of the homepage. Here you’ll be able to search through all of our online resources by keyword, topic, or audience.
Visit a Library Location
Plan your visit to a DC Public Library location on our Plan a Visit page, easily located at the top of the homepage. Explore a map of DC to find your nearest branch, find the hours for each location on their location page, and explore the services and amenities each branch offers.
Learn About Specialty Departments
Departments like the People’s Archive, Center for Accessibility, Adult Learning, The Labs, Outreach & Inclusion Services, and Arts & Exhibits are all located on the Plan a Visit page. Filter by “Departments and Labs”, select your desired department, and explore the unique work and offerings of these departments.
Explore Library Services
DC Public Library offers a host of free and easily accessible services to library users - from assistive technology support to digital certification classes and tax preparation. Find services offered at branch locations linked directly on their neighborhood library pages or explore all of the library’s services on the Using the Library page, located in the footer of the homepage.
