Nelson Mandela through the years
Nelson Mandela served as president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Beforehand, he was imprisoned for being a militant anti-apartheid activist. As president he brought democracy to South Africa and fought poverty and inequality. In 1993, he received the Nobel Peace Prize.
