Gwen Ifill Speaks at DC Public Library

On Monday, February 22 at 7 p.m., Gwen Ifill, managing editor and moderator for PBS’ “Washington Week” will discuss race in American politics and her best-selling book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

Dr. Maurice Jackson Lecture Postponed

Today, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty joined Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper and Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans to celebrate ongoing renovations at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library.  The occasion was marked by the mounting of the cupola on the library’s new roof.

The Library’s Live Homework Help® and Live Tutor™ services will be closed Friday, December 25 2009, in observance of the Christmas holiday and Friday, January 1 2010 in observance of New Year’s Day.  The SkillsCenter™ resources will still be available during this time.

Public Gets Gift Bags as Thanks for Borrowing Books, DVDs & More

Today, the first 100 library users at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library received thank-you gift bags to celebrate the 100-percent increase in the number of books and DVDs borrowed from the DC Public Library since 2006.

Number of Books Borrowed City-Wide Doubled Since 2006

On Tuesday, December 15, 2010, the first 100 library users at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library will receive thank you gift bags to celebrate the 100-percent increase in the number of books and DVDs borrowed from the DC Public Library since 2006.  Items will include vouchers for an upcoming Georgetown University men’s basketball game. movie passes, and books. The Library will open at noon. 

Petworth Neighborhood Library Closing for Interior Renovation

Interim Location to Open January 11, 2010

The Petworth Neighborhood Library, located at 4200 Kansas Ave. N.W., will close for renovation at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009.  An interim location, in the library’s parking lot, will open on Monday, January 11, 2009.The library will remain in the interim location until spring 2011, when the renovated Petworth Neighborhood Library opens.
