Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week September 25- October 2 2010
Be a reader of banned books
Each year the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom records hundreds of attempts by individuals and groups to have books removed from library shelves and from classrooms. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald; To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee; Ulysses by James Joyce; The Color Purple by Alice Walker and Catch-22 by Joseph Heller are just a few examples of titles that have been banned or challenged. Check-out the ALA website www.ala.org/ for more examples of banned books.
