iPhone and Android Users Get eBook Access

DC Public Library users with iPhones or Android devices now have another way to check out books. A software upgrade allows them to browse and download eBooks from the library's catalog to their handheld devices.

OverDrive, the library’s partner for eBooks, audio books, music, and video, has released Overdrive Media Console v. 2.0. The new software gives iPhone, iPod touch and Android users access to the DC Public Library’s extensive eBook collection. In addition, a new feature called "Get Books" connects DC Public Library card holders directly to the online catalog, where they can check out and wirelessly download an eBook.

“iPhone and Android users who like eBooks now have an option for checking out and reading whenever and wherever they want,” says Ginnie Cooper, chief librarian of the DC Public Library. “This upgrade represents one of the many innovative ways that the library and its partners are reaching more people.”

The Overdrive Media Console is available for free in the Apple App Store and Android Market.  Current Overdrive Media Console users will be alerted to the update on their devices.
