Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Who is eligible?
Individuals with less than $35,000 in income (taxable and non-taxable)
Families with less than $42,000 in income (taxable and non-taxable)
Federal, District, Maryland and Virginia income tax returns for 2010 or prior years for individuals with no more than $35,000 in income and families with no more than $42,000 in income.
Note: From January 29 - February 28, we will only prepare 2010 returns. From March 1 to April 9, we will prepare returns for 2010 and for prior years. From April 10-16 we will only prepare returns for 2007 and 2010. April 17, 18 and 19 we will prepare returns for all years. Remember, if you are due a refund for tax year 2007 you must file by April 18, 2011 to obtain the refund.
We Can Not Prepare
Because of the difficulty involved, we do not prepare returns for cab drivers, individuals with rental income or home office deductions, day traders, or businesses that have inventory or depreciation. We also cannot prepare complicated items reported on Schedule D, or returns for individuals with large amounts of investments income. This is not a complete list and there may be other instances when we cannot prepare a return.

How Do I Sign Up?
We do not take appointments. All service is fist come, first served. Be prepared to wait or to come back another day. During the most popular times, the list often fills up shortly after we open the doors. wait times are generally shorter in late February and during March.
Social Security Cards Required For Service (For taxpayer and anyone claimed as a dependent)
You must bring one of the following items for each individual to be listed on your tax return.
- Social Security Card, Medicare card, Social Security Statement, or letter or printout from the Social Security Administration showing name and social security number
- Federal Pension/Annuity Statement (Form 1099-CSA)
- Letter or printout from IRS showing both name and social security number
- ITIN card or letter, or need to apply for an ITIN (for those not eligible for social security number
