The Civil War coverJoin us, Thursday, Feb. 24, from 1 to 3 p.m., to view Ken Burns’ classic film documentary on the Civil War. This week’s viewing will be Episode 4: “Simply Murder.” Robert E. Lee invades the north to draw Grant away from Vicksburg.  Episode 5: “Universe of Battle” The Battle of Gettysburg is the turning point of the Civil War.

The idea to make a film about the Civil War came to Ken Burns after he had finished reading the historical novel The Killer Angels by Michael Sharra. Through the use of archival photographs, music, narration and first-person voices, Ken Burns has create an “emotional archaeology” of what it was like for the common American to live or die during the Civil War.
