Book Club Selection for August: "The History of Love"
Published on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - 11:10am
Set in contemporary New York City, Nicole Krauss’ beautiful novel explores themes of loneliness and loss, and the unlikely glimmers of hope found despite these through the lives of two unlikely protagonists: Leo Gursky, an older gentleman who once wrote a book and fell in love with a girl in the Polish village he left long ago, and Alma Singer, a 14-year-old who already leads a busy life trying to keep an eye on her delusional younger brother and writing—when a letter in the mail puts her on the trail of a mystery that will ultimately involve her family, her origins—and Leo.
The Mt. Pleasant Library Book Club will meet Wednesday, September 7, at 7 p.m. at La Casa, located right next door to the interim library. For more information, please contact Ana Elisa de Campos Salles at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 202-671-3122.
