Cleveland Park Book Club September Selection
Published on Monday, August 22, 2011 - 4:21pm
At the September 13 meeting, the group will discuss Lisa See's Shanghai Girls, in which the reader follows two sisters for more than 20 years, from Shanghai in the 1930s, called the Paris of Asia, through immigration and life in Los Angeles. Drawing on her nonfiction account of her own family, On Gold Mountain (1995) and continued this year in the novel Dreams of Joy, See presents a rich combination of family relationships and history, Chinese and American. Both novels are also available as recorded books.
The Cleveland Park Library Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m.
