Northeast Library Historic Renovation
The Northeast Neighborhood Library, located at 330 7th Street NE, is closed for renovation. The Georgian Revival style building, which first opened in 1932, will be modernized to provide state-of-the-art library services, while retaining the building's historic character.
Operating hours at the Southeast Library, 403 7th Street SE, have been expanded for the duration of the project. Hours at Southeast Library are M, W, F, Sa 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and T, Th from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sun: Closed. The renovation will take approximately 18 months.

As part of the review process for projects in a historic district, the Library submitted exterior modifications to the Historic Preservation Office.
The $10 million historic renovation will include:
- restoration of original woodwork
- new plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
- improved lighting
- increased space for library programs
- larger meeting room
- quiet study rooms
- new restrooms
- new elevator
- roof repairs
- new flooring
- new and restored furnishings and fixtures
Whiting-Turner Construction with Bell Architects and Vines Architecture have been hired as the design/builder team. Renovation of the exterior of the building was completed in 2010.
