The DC Public Library is pleased to welcome local Maryland historian and author Anthony Pitch. He will be speaking about his latest book They Have Killed Papa Dead! The event is at 6:30 p.m. in the Washingtoniana Division (Room 307) on Tuesday, October 25.
They Have Killed Papa Dead! is about the events leading up to President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination at Ford’s Theatre and its effect on the nation. This was not the first time someone attempted to kill him; threats to the President’s life originated as early as 1861. They Have Killed Papa Dead! was awarded best book from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference.
Pitch has written eight nonfiction books and has been widely recognized for them. He has been featured on C-Span TV, The History Channel, National Geographic TV, NPR, PBS and Book TV. He narrated Inside the White House for Tribune Broadcasting TV. Pitch is invited annually to speak at Fort McHenry on the anniversary of Francis Scott Key writing the National Anthem and has spoken in Ford's Theatre on the anniversary of Lincoln's assassination.
