Southwest Teen Wins Laptop

Summer Reading Program Book Review Winner

Southwest Neighborhood Library congratulates Naliah Penic for her winning book review on the novel, Money Hungry, by Sharon Flake! Penic wrote an engaging and thought-provoking book review that illuminated the strengths and thematic complexity of the popular young adult novel. For her literary effort, Penic took home a brand new laptop that will surely support her academic endeavors.

Naliah Penic, a 15-year-old sophomore, is currently home-schooled. Penic has many interests. For starters, she enjoys drawing, painting, crocheting and visiting museums. In fact, she volunteers at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art. She also enjoys creative writing and reading, and keeps a daily journal. Her most recent favorite book is Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Finally, Naliah loves to travel and has been to over 20 states and plans to travel abroad. She enjoys listening to various genres of music including zydeco, contemporary latin jazz and soul, hip-hop, gospel, R & B, Afro Beat and Middle Eastern folk music.  She desires to attend a small and diverse college that emphasizes the importance of the arts, and she plans to major in the Biological Sciences.

Again, we congratulate Penic and hope that she continues to use the library system as she pursues both personal and professional goals!
