Mt. Pleasant Book Club Title for November
Published on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 - 12:05pm
We’ve all heard the statistic: one in 100 people is a psychopath. But where does this statement come from? What are the tell-tale signs of a psychopath? And why does it seem a lot of people in positions of power possess these same qualities?
Researching a story about a man who claimed insanity in order to avoid prison, author Jon Ronson delves deep into these and many other questions around the idea of psychopathy. He spends time with the criminally insane, the powerful, and the scientists, uncovering the origins and the history of this diagnosis, its treatments and how it’s being used, from dealing with difficult co-workers, to diagnosing serial killers. Join us and find out if you agree, and to see if you think you could spot the one out of the 100.
The Mt. Pleasant Library Book Club will next meet Wednesday, December 7, at 7 p.m. at La Casa, located right next door to the interim library. For more information, please contact Ana Elisa de Campos Salles at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 202-671-3122.
