"The Silence of Our Friends"

Date:
Wednesday, February 22, 2012 - 7:00pm

Silence Of Our Friends Cover ArtA white family from a notoriously racist neighborhood in the suburbs and a black family from its poorest ward cross Houston’s color line, overcoming humiliation, degradation and violence to win the freedom of five black college students unjustly charged with the murder of a policeman.

In this presentation, authors Mark Long and Jim Demonakos, and illustrator Nate Powell, will talk about the politically charged dynamics and difficult societal tensions of that era, discussing and showing the process they went through to get that history on the page.

Audience Q&A and book signing will be available after the presentation.
