Happy Chinese New Year

http://catalog.dclibrary.org/client/dcpl_boxed/search/results?te=ILS&qu=ocm53356396The new year is celebrated in many different countries. The children's picture book I'm sharing today, for ages 6 years and under, is about the Chinese New Year.  In Washington, D.C., we have a Chinatown like many other major cities in America.  Each year, the neighborhood hosts a Chinese New Year's parade with Chinese dragon dancers, live musical performances and more. This year's parade will be held on January 29th.

The name of the book is My First Chinese New Year, by Karen Katz.  The book describes what the Chinese New Year is all about.  Like many picture books, this book has nice bright pictures to accompany the print on the page.  Young readers will learn about the festivities that go on during this time of year.  They will learn the meaning of the dragon and the color red.  Come and check out this book to learn more about the Chinese New Year tradition and special holiday festivities.

See you at the parade, XO, XO
