84th Academy Award Nominees Announced

This past Tuesday morning the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its nominees for the 84th Academy Awards. Four of the ten nominees for Best Picture are based on award winning and best-selling books.
Hugo directed by Martin Scorsese and based on Brian Seznick’s The invention of Hugo Cabret : a novel in words and pictures garnered a whopping eleven nominations. The novel won the prestigious Caldecott Award in 2008.
The Help directed by Tate Taylor is based on the New York Times best-selling novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett. The film received four nominations, including one for Actress in a Leading Role (Viola Davis) and two for Actress in a Supporting Role (Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer).
Moneyball directed by Bennett Miller is adapted from the book Moneyball : the art of winning an unfair game by Michael Lewis. The film received four nominations, including Actor in a Leading Role (Brad Pitt) and Writing (Adapted Screenplay).
War Horse directed by Steven Spielberg is based on the novel War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. The film received four nominations, including Art Direction, Cinematography, and Music (Original Score).
The Academy Awards will be announced Sunday evening, February 24 starting at 7:00pm EST. You still have a chance before the big day to either read the book before you see the movie OR see the movie if you’ve read the book.
