CS-4 $28,266.00 - $36,924.00       CS-5 $30,577.00 - $40,153.00  per annum

This position is a Term Appointment, Not-To-Exceed (NTE) 13 months.

LOCATION:  Neighborhood Library Services and /or Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library

HOURS: 40 hours per week as assigned, including evenings and weekends.

DUTIES: Under the general supervision of a Supervisory Librarian/Branch Manager, the incumbent delivers direct customer service by greeting customers, answering their questions, checking in and out library materials, registering customers, resolving account issues, etc.  In addition, the incumbent performs a variety of duties to ensure the smooth operation of the library, such as coding, searching, shelving, shifting, shelf-reading and sorting library materials; performs a variety of other detailed, non-routine or clerical duties following prescribed or standardized methods and instructions.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: CS-4: High school diploma, plus a minimum of one year of library or customer service experience.  CS-5: A bachelor’s degree, plus a minimum of one year of library or customer service experience.  All applicants must present a combination of experience, education and skills that demonstrates the capacity to perform the duties of the position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Pursuant to Title II of the Child and Youth, Safety and Health Omnibus Amendment Act of 2004 and Title I of the Act, as amended by section 4 (b) of the Anti-Drunk Driving Clarification Amendment Act of 2006, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to complete a Drug and Alcohol Test and Criminal Background Check.  Employment with the DCPL is subject to satisfactory findings.

RESIDENCY: A person applying for a position in the Career Service, or Management Supervisory Service, who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points.  If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment.  Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS: Selectee will be eligible for health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the District of Columbia government’s retirement plan.  However, if selectee was previously employed in the District of Columbia government under an appointment for which he/she was eligible for Civil Service Retirement (CSR), contributions to CSR will resume upon reemployment.
