From Purim to Modern Yiddish Culture

Yiddish song coverLearn about early Yiddish entertainment and how it developed in theater and film.  Using clips from Yiddish classic films, Dr. Miriam Isaacs, affiliate faculty at the Jewish Studies Program, University of Maryland, will bring you to laughter and tears.  She will present a selection of classic film clips and sound recordings. From the Purim plays of medieval times, through the Jewish enlightenment of Eastern Europe, to its heyday in the 1920s in Lower Manhattan, to today, Yiddish entertainment is powerfully evocative of Ashkenzai Jewish culture across the continents and time.
