On Thursday, March 1, the book group will discuss Kerri Stanely's City of Dragons, the 2010 Macavity Award winner for Best Historical Mystery. The author fulfills her goal, "to give you an enriching, immersive, and entertaining experience" depicting San Francisco in 1940 complete with its politics, popular culture and the frictions between non-Asians, Chinese, and Japanese. Be sure to go to the author's website for the sound clips, documentary film and photographs that accompany her descriptions of the world between World War I and the United States' entry into World War II. There is special interest in the book and on the website for those interested in the Spanish Civil War.
The Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library Mystery Book Club meets on the first Thursday of the month, at Barnes & Noble, 12th and E Streets, N.W., at 6:30 pm.
