"Daughter of Smoke and Bone"

Forget Twilight; here's a truly forbidden love story, that of chimaera and seraph, beast and angel.
With her bright blue hair and omnipresent sketchbook full of drawings of animal-beasts, Karou appears to be a typical art student. Except: Karou’s hair grows out of her head in a brilliant shade of blue, and the animal-beasts do not exist only in her drawings.
When we meet Karou, her life is normal. She has a creepy ex-boyfriend, and an excitable best friend, and is living in Prague and attending art school. She also often has to drop everything at a moment’s notice to run errands for a mysterious creature, who collects teeth in exchange for wishes (so maybe her life isn’t that normal after all). Suddenly, her errands are becoming more and more urgent, and it seems as though someone is tracking her movements, as black marks start appearing on the doorways that serve as Karou’s portal between earthly places and “Elsewhere.”
Who, or what, is this mysterious creature with captivating eyes...and more importantly, what does he want with Karou?
Rich language, beautiful foreign settings and a mysterious love story between two creatures will leave you wondering, “Who is good?” as well as “How will it all end?”
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor is the first part of a proposed trilogy written for young adults, but appealing to adults as well. The film rights to this book have already been acquired by Universal Pictures. You decide...will this be the next big reading phenomenon, like Harry Potter, Twilight and the Hunger Games?
