Book Club: "The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates"

Cover image of the nonfiction book The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, by Wes Moore This is a story of two Wes Moores, born within the same year in the same neighborhood of Baltimore. Both grew up without a father and had rough childhoods, growing up in tough neighborhoods and having run-ins with the police. How is it then that one grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow and business entrepreneur, while the other became a convicted prisoner and is now serving a life sentence?

Examining his own as well as his namesake's life experiences, Moore succeeds in writing a deeply personal exploration of the various stresses, psychological and physical, encountered by children growing up in the shadows of society, and how the attention--or lack thereof--given to these children sets them in a cycle they ultimately cannot get out of.

The Mt. Pleasant Library Book Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at La Casa (first floor), located next to the interim library. For more information, please contact Ana Elisa de Campos Salles at or call 202-671-3122.
