Have you been meaning to join a book group, but can never find the time to make it to meetings? Are you an avid social media user as well as an avid reader? Do you just want to read some good books and discuss them with others? Join our new online book discussion group on Goodreads!
Goodreads is an online community of over 7 million readers. On the site, people share, rate, review, tag, recommend and organize their books. Goodreads also allows users to form groups. Each group has a virtual bookshelf for listing books of interest to the group and a space for forum-style discussions. Our group will be for monthly book discussions. Each month we’ll announce the theme (i.e. mystery, short stories, celebrity memoir) and you choose the book you want to read and discuss.
For June we'll be reading and discussing international crime fiction. With the success of Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, publishers have been tripping over themselves to release more crime fiction from Scandinavia and the rest of the world. International mysteries were popular long before the misadventures of Lisbeth Salander, though. Translations of Georges Simenon's Maigret series have been popular since they were first published in the 1930s.
Reading suggestions for the month can be found on our group's page and our group's International Crime bookshelf.
