'Dead End in Norvelt' by Jack Gantos
Most of the book jackets on newer juvenile fiction will state at the top of the inside cover "Ages 10 and up" or "Ages 12 and up" or "Ages 8-12." But the book jacket of the 2012 Newbery Award Winner Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos makes no statement of intended audience, and for good reason: I believe this book is for ages 9 to 90.
There are historical facts to keep it interesting and otherwise, the book -- based in Norvelt, Pa., the homestead community where Jack Gantos grew up, and starring a main character also named Jack Gantos -- is very funny.
