Changes at Petworth Library

Farewell Robin Imperial, Welcome LeoNard Thompson

mrthompson After working as branch manager of the Petworth Neighborhood Library since 2008, Robin Imperial is now managing the Mount Pleasant Library. We wish her much luck and happiness in her new position.

We are happy to welcome Mr. LeoNard Thompson as our branch manager. Here's a short bio on Mr. Thompson:

Ohio native LeoNard Thompson was raised in greater Cleveland. He began his career in librarianship with the Shaker Heights Public Library in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and has since managed public libraries throughout Hampton Roads, including Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia.

His career path has provided him the opportunity to share and learn with both public and special libraries, boards, Friends groups and various nonprofit and community organizations. His passion is rooted in providing excellent customer service to library patrons.

Both he and his wife LaToya, who is an elementary educator, are excited about relocating to the D.C. area, and look forward to experiencing this new chapter for their family.

"This is an exciting time for DCPL, and the Petworth community," he said. "I am privileged to have an opportunity to be a part of it."

He attended Wilberforce University, the nation's first HBCU, and went on to earn a graduate degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. However, his recently bestowed title of "Dad" -- with the arrival of his now one-year-old son Aurelius -- makes him most proud.
