When it is really hot, cool down with a story set in a colder climate.
Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George is the book selected for the children's book club meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m.
One can actually appreciate heat when one reads about a young Eskimo girl who has to be clever about what to wear and how not to get it wet. When she is ready to sleep, she takes off her fur pants and her parka and puts them in a bag made of whale bladder. Then, she slips into her sleeping skin made of rabbit furs. Julie is a runaway and surviving on her own with a little help from some wolves.
Although this book club is intended for ages 8 to 12, all are welcome.
