Published on Thursday, August 30, 2012 - 4:20pm
On Wednesday, Aug, 29, I took some time to interview 10-year old Diego Nicolas Acajabon (friends and family call him "Nico"), winner of the Petworth Library's Summer Reading Challenge lottery prize. He was given several rounds of applause by curious and admiring children and family patrons in the Children's room.
What school and grade do you attend?
I’m in fifth grade at Murch Elementary.
What was your favorite book that you read this summer?
The Warriors--Super Edition [by Erin Hunter]
How does it feel to be the reading challenge lottery winner?
I didn’t see this coming. Usually I don’t win things, but it feels awesome to be a winner!
How do plan to use your Kindle Fire?
I’ll use it, but my [younger] sister, Sophia, will probably use it too—especially during car trips.
Sophia, your brother says he will share the Kindle with you. What will you use it for?
Well, I’ve never had any kind of electronic device before, so I’ll read with it. My favorite book this summer was The Candymakers [by Wendy Mass]. I might use [the Kindle] mostly for games though.
Nico, we know that you and your sister come to the library often and you participated in our Science In the Summer program as well. What did you think of that program?
The chemistry program was great. I especially liked the experiment using baking soda and vinegar to test for acids and stuff.
What do you enjoy most when you visit the Petworth Library?
I know some people hang out and like using the computers. I like checking out books. My favorite kinds [of books] are fantasy, science fiction, adventure, mystery and animal fiction.
Ms. Sosa, how do you feel about your children’s involvement at Petworth Library?
“I’m very proud. My children are such good readers. They love coming to the library every week. It’s ‘our thing’ to do.”
The Petworth Children's staff extends our congratulations to Nico, Sophia and all of the other Super Star Readers who registered and completed our Summer Reading Challenge. You truly deserve to have your names among the stars! Remember everyone, "Dream Big, READ!".
